On December 2, 2001, the North Central Region Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Radio System became operational. The TIM Radio System is a joint effort of the Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG), the Connecticut Department of Transportation, and the North Central Connecticut EMS Council. The goal is to provide interagency communications to emergency responders on or along the highway system. The TIM System is coordinated by the North Central C-MED Regional Communications Center. During any large scale highway incident, severe weather situation, disaster, or mass casualty incident response, the TIM Radio System can be activated to provide direct interagency communications between, EMS, Fire, CT DOT, CT DEP, and State Police. The System is utilized by the Incident Commander and Command personnel of responding agencies to coordinate Command Post set-up, emergency resource response, and escalation to a developing large scale incident. Participants in the North Central Region TIM Radio System currently include all EMS Providers, 37 Fire Departments, Connecticut Department of Transportation, Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, and the Connecticut State Police.
